Our neighbours at West Lane Baptist Church are hosting a talk at 3.00 p.m. on Saturday (27th January) by local author S R Whitehead about his new book The Last Bronte inspired by the story of the Revd Arthur Bell Nicholls, who was the Revd Patrick Bronte’s last Curate and who became Charlotte Bronte’s husband. The event and refreshments are free but there will be an opportunity to contribute to their fund-raising for a new kitchen.
Our service of Holy Communion at 11.00 a.m. on Sunday (28th January) will mark the feast of the Presentation of Christ in the Temple, which Luke’s Gospel tells us happened forty days after Jesus’ birth. The prophet Malachi challenges us ‘Who can abide the time of his coming?’. The prophets Simeon and Anna challenge Mary and Joseph with their joy and their warnings.
And we then have an extra service at 7.00 p.m. on Monday (29th January) which will be a time of Praise and Worship. This is the second such service we have held (the first was in St James, Cross Roads in November) and seeks to provide something quite different from our normal Sunday worship.
